Crème de la crème

Sharon Okumu

Did you know that the highest paid footballer earns 731,506 US dollars per day? After one high profile transfer before the end of 2022, we can finally rank the top 10 highest paid footballers in 2023. Who do you think it is? well, I am Sharon Okumu and let’s find out.

Coming in at number 10, is Kevin De Bruyne. The 31-year-old Belgian plays the attacking midfielder for Manchester City and is certainly one if the best assisters in football today. He earns a massive salary of 29 million US dollars per year.

At number nine is a player you probably did not expect and actually forgot about. Andreas Iniesta. The Spanish legend earns a total of 30 million US dollars. Before going to Japan, he spent 22 years at Barcelonaand became a true club legend.

Real Madrid’s forward Eden Hazard comes in at number 8with a whooping 31 million dollars per year.

Robert Lewandoski comes in at number 7. The Barcelona centre forward earns 35 million US dollars per year.

Manchester City big signing has lived up to his hype. Erling Haaland comes in at number 6 earning 39 million US dollars per year.

At number 5 is the Egyptian king of Liverpool. Mohammed Salah signed a new three-year deal at the start of July 2022 that made him the highest paid player in the history of the club. He earns a total of 53 million US dollars per year.

Neymar Jr comes in at number 4, earning 68.5 million US dollars per year. Neymar has constantly been among the top 5 or top 10 players in the world in the last decade.

And now for the top 3, Lionel Messi starts us off earning a total of 120 million US dollars per year. He is arguably the best player in the history of the game.

The French giant, Kylian Mbappe comes in at number 2 earning a total of 128 million US dollars per year. Despite frequently stating his desire to play for Real Madrid, he opted against joining the Spanish giants and instead committed his future to Paris in a deal that apparently gives him control over coaching appointments and player recruitments.

And for the highest paid player, you guessed it right, Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro. His recent move to Al Nassir sees the player earning a staggering 200 million US dollars. It’s a move from the Portuguese pro that caused much debate, but one, that’s no denying that’s on hell of a pay day for him.

And well, that is all we had time for. Bye.

Is online purchase the future?

Vincent Adhiambo

VINCENT: Hello everyone and welcome to another segment of the figures narrative and on this segment today, we are goin to talk about online purchase, my name is Vincent Adhiambo and our guest today is…..
DUNCAN: Duncan…
VINCENT: Yes, onto our first question, have you ever done online purchase or bought anything online?
DUNCAN: Yes have interacted with online purchasing and shopping platforms basically for example jumia, kilimall, glovo and the rest, they are quite convinient and easily accessible once you are connected to a reliable internet.
VINCENT: Yes and you comfortable making payments online?
DUNCAN :The main brands like the reliable and established online platforms make it secure because they use recognized modes of transaction but I have heard of incidences where my friends have been corned via online purchases but those are just a few incidences. So for me I feel comfortable making those payments.
VINCENT: And what issues did you face when shopping online?
DUNCAN: The major issue is what is being displayed like the photo the picture that is played for portraying the image its actually different from the image itself the quality might differ from the image being portrayed, so that is the major challenge and of course the time for the delivery, payment delivery of the said product is quite unpredictable to a certain extent because they will say three working days and at times it would even take a week, or a week and a half, so there are those challenges as well.
VINCENT : So how was your checkout experience?
DUNCAN : Generally it was a smooth one as you carried with you the relevant documents like your identification card and the message that you were sent to go and pick the item, it was all cool.
VINCENT : Thank you very much Duncan and you have heard the expert, so make sure you do more and more online shopping till next time. My name is Vincent Adhiambo.

FUEL PRICES REMAIN UNCHANGED

Mathu Alex

The price of fuel in the country will remain unchanged this month after the latest review by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

In a statement issued on Friday, the authority announced the hold despite a drop in the import costs which it said was against the inflation costs.

EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo stated that in accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022, the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has calculated the maximum retail prices of petroleum products which will be in force from 15th April 2023 to 14th May 2023.

He further added that in the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump price of Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will remain unchanged.

Subsequent to the hold in costs, a litre of petrol in the capital Nairobi will continue to be priced at Ksh.179.30, while diesel and kerosene will retail at a maximum of Ksh.162 and Ksh. 145.94 respectively.

Kiptoo further noted that the new prices had been subsidized across the fuel brands to cushion Kenyans from the high prices of a particular brand.

He stated that the price of diesel has been cross subsidized with that of Super Petrol while a subsidy of Ksh. 17.12 /litre has been maintained for Kerosene in order to cushion consumers from the otherwise high prices.

He further stated that the Government will utilize the Petroleum Development Levy to compensate oil marketing companies for the difference in cost.

THE FASHION WORLD: JEWELRY

Mathu Alex

I bought a chain and its price together with its shipment cost Ksh 1100. Chains are often used in jewelry-making to create necklaces, bracelets, and anklets. They can be made of a variety of materials, such as gold, silver, platinum, or stainless steel, and come in different styles and thicknesses to fit the design of the jewelry piece. Some chains may also be adorned with charms, pendants, or beads to add further decoration to the jewelry. Everyone has a reason for adorning jewelry and this ranges from looking smart in public to wanting to impress people. Jewelry comes in all sizes and can be attached on the body or clothes. Research on jewelry lead to knowledge on the following facts:

Many people would think that the oldest piece of jewelry to be diamonds but it is infact a couple of beads made out of shells and it dates back to 100,000 years ago.

Diamonds have grown to become the most popular gemstone with over 80% of couples choose a diamond engagement ring today.

There is a thing such as live insect jewelry where live insects such as beetles are worn as fashion accessories attached to clothes.

Pearls are the only gemstone that comes from a living animal. It is an organic gemstone.

More fashion jewelry is being created everyday with unique looks and sizes meaning that the future holds a lot more in store of the industry and the people.

Venturing into business

By Sherleen Maina

Everyone wants money, everyone wants to be rich and it is now clear that a 9 to 5 job is not it. The cost of living has gone up tremendously and people have really ventured into businesses to be able to live comfortably. Whether its an online business or one that you physically show up to, this is one of the few ways people have gained financial independence. According to the below survey, 63% of the people have ventured into businesses.

My data was mainly from students and some are attending their classes full time. That could be a solid reason why most have not ventured into businesses. Part of the 63% are also students who intend to make more money to support their upkeep and school and other activities.

Most businesses are not done online though. Social media is still a new concept to many people let alone have to run a whole business online. Many people however have been able to successfully run businesses and advertise them. Others have ventured into crypto trading and writing.

36% of the people have their businesses online which is a bit low especially for the current times where technology is the way in the world.

Not everyone has engaged in a business but in the above image you can see some of them and clearly not many people have ventured into online trading. I think its kinda sad although there have been many scams and people have ended up losing money. So understand why this would be a long shot but its worth a try. This online businesses can bring in reliable income. The ecommerce has reached a global GDP of 2.3% in 2020 and 2.5% in 2022.
